9/6/19 - public transport in Vienna

We are pretty proud of the way we mastered public transport in Vienna today.

We started the day with breakfast at the hotel, and then a bit of time with our guide Zsolt, who took us on the underground into the centre of the city and then walked us for a while.

We revisited St Stephens cathedral and I took the opportunity to try to capture on zoom the lovely stained glass windows at the front of the church .. and some of the stone work.

After a few more stops - including a visit to Mozart

we had some Sachertorte (traditonal chocolate cake) with a cup of tea. Here we tossed a coin to decide how to spend our day and decided to go up into the mountains for the day.
We had a quick stop at the tourist info office for a map before we tried our hand at solo navigation.

I finally managed to capture a photo of the "diversity" walk and don't walk lights which have cute couples holding hands instead of the usual symbols.

We took a tram into the hills,

On the way we spotted this hotel,

(going a little further than we should have and riding back to the correct stop a little later ) before taking a bus further up the hill.

Track of our path from Hotel (green dot) to Vienna, walking, then tram, walk, tram, bus to Kahlenberg.

Here we found a great spot to have lunch and admire the view down to Vienna

I particularly admired this view  :)

Before a walk past some zip lining adventurers to an old church at Leopoldsberg

 When I say old - I mean 1200s!!!
with an even better view... both ways.

Then we tried to catch the bus to a winery but it was closed, so we caught the next one the rest of the way down, changed back to the tram and then into the city.  We found another cache, had a good cup of tea and yummy pastry, and then caught the underground back to our closest stop.

We shopped for sunscreen (both of us forgot it) at the most crowded supermarket we have ever seen, before heading back into the funpark, where we ate tea at the base of the giant ferris wheel before heading back for a relatively early night.

Tomorrow we move on to Cesky Krumlov , so most of the day will be spent enroute to another new place, with different currency and language.  Wish us luck.
