234 km today
We had a quick visit to the end of the campsite where the St
Mary’s Estuary (closed) was. This is a
rocky and harsh environment for sure.
Trev and I took a walk to the beach with the naked man
trophy to take another photo for Bridget.
Here we saw an unusual shoe cleaning station with brushes
hung up on nails for us to use.
We drove down just a short section along the coast to St
Ann’s lookout and spotted a pod of dolphins out in the water – there must have
been about 20 of them all having fun in the water.
You could stop here and watch the whales at the right time of year from the lookouts.
On the way out of the park we stopped to photograph those amazing Royal Hakeas (Hakea Victoria)
We stopped at Hamesley inlet for our lunch – extremely large
picnic area here for buses. We could
have driven down on to the beach. We
walked down later and there was an amazing surface made of shells that looked
like concrete with rocks inbedded in it.
You could only tell because it crunched as you walked on them.
A little later we came through Hopetuon and on down the
coast.
The road closed sign was out, but we decided that we might
try it anyway and were amazed that the lake out to the left was right up to the
road (and in one place over it) . They
must have had an awful lot of rain down this way at some time recently (maybe on
Good Friday by the sounds) .
We followed the road around to Masons Bay, where we
discovered a lovely little campground and two sites right on the beachfront, so
we paid our $10 each and enjoyed it.
Ross spotted crabs out on the rocks just as the sun started to
set.
It was only a gentle sunset. A
lovely calm bay and quiet beach will hopefully make for a good sleep tonight.
