214km
At the end of today we had travelled 4264 km since leaving
home.
slightly different side configuration last night. Also worked well. |
Ross found an orchid this morning, which looked very much
like a Parson’s Band but the leaf was growing on the stem above ground while the
flowers were still good. Then we found some more the same.
It remained a mystery until a bit before lunch where
we visited the local tourist info at Boyup Brook and they had an orchid book we
could look at. Apparently is is a common
Bunny orchid (the only one around at this time of year).
The closest loos (at Noggerup) were closed and locked, so we
had to wait until very close to lunch time.
We had morning tea at Eulin Crossing (on the Blackwood
River) where we sat up at the high picnic table and swung our legs. This would be a great camp spot in
future.
Bridget's coaching trophy was out again. You can't keep this naked man form running around. |
We drove past many tree plantations and cattle and sheep
properties along the dirt roads that we were driving on.
We came across some roadside sculpture too.
The little tourist info place at Boyup Brook was well kept,
friendly and helpful with information about where we might find some hot lunch.
(it was bitingly cold) and we were happy to take her advice and join the
lunchtime rush. Boyup Brook is home to country music in the south west it
seems, and among the few shops in town was a country outfitters. The theme was
also continued in the colourful signpost outside the tourist info and I the
sculptures outside the toilets.
this sculpture is cut in instead of shaped outwards! |
outside the country and western apparel shop. |
We finished our day on the (dry) shores of Lake Unicup, and
had our first fire for the entire trip. May 1st has arrived at last. Now we feel like we are truly camping .
Tonight we will sling our swags in the
soft sand under the little shade shed cover for a bit of protection. It is already quite crispy, so it will be
another cold night, but it is really lovely already.
