New Zealand 2017 -day 1 competition Auckland Sprints

The Sprints today were held on the site of an old Mental Asylum (now UNITEC).

Complex building arrangements, gardens and changes from close navigation to open gave us plenty to think about. Thanks for the training Stefano. We felt right at home with the sprint map.

Trevor's ankle held up enough for him to run on  it.

The spectator spot was fantastic with views from a grassy hill across to the final control and the finish chute down into the gully and alone in front of gardens.

Final control

The grass is very soggy and the grassy hill soon became a muddy hill, with only those who were game braving the results shelters, where it had become VERY squelchy.

The air filled finish sign collapsed briefly when a generator stopped, but was soon up again.

We haven't collected our maps as the rain started to fall really heavily and we decided to start for home.  Before we left I was sitting at 22nd and Trev at about 25th with some still to come in. This puts us mid field.  As yet we have been unable to find any online results.

Aylwin anticipating an excellent run

Late results have arrived.  Trevor came 39th in a field of 72 runners and I was 22nd in a field of 48!! We are very proud of our fellow state runners, some of whom put in an outstanding performance.  Go SA.
