Day 6 Walking Amalfi - Bomerano to San Lazzaro 2/11/18

Today the weather was too cruel to do the "Walk of the Gods".  It is the walk we have been waiting all week for good weather for, and we were hoping that by today it would be good enough, but sadly that was not to be.

Instead we had a lazy morning, with a walk into San Lazzaro (the local town) for hot chocolate. The hot chocolate is like no other we have tasted and we had Strawberry flavoured milk chocolate (Trev) and Pistachio flavoured (Erica).  You could almost stand a spoon up in it. Beautiful and velvety.

Then Joe (our guide) offered a session of photography tutorial for those who were interested and a few took that up. Us included. We learned some very useful things about how to use our camera better, so, in time, we might get better at taking shots.  The things I tried later today did not work well at all, but it wasn't really optimum conditions for trying out new photo techniques when doing it in the pouring rain.

Joe offered us to do a walk to Bomerano (a local village)  via the roads and to come back via some paths. Most of us took up this option and, despite getting quite wet, we did still have a chance to look a bit more at the local area, shake our heads in amazement at the things we saw and try some almost overgrown paths while grabbing some last views of the amazing drop down to the sea and hairpin corners of the road that goes there.

This pale blue article is a transporter via a mechanised pulley system.  The man in the red car had just yelled to his mate up higher to pull it up.

I think the snake had drowned!!

our route today

We are getting better at sharing the narrow road with parked cars and driving ones and not feeling quite so intimidated.

We came back to shower ourselves and to smell beautiful chocolate smells coming from the kitchen - I think we will be in for a treat for dessert tonight.

Yesterday I lost my money on the bus back from Pompeii. (I took it off from around my neck and put it in my bag, but then took out my raincoat to make the trek to our door from the bus and must have accidentally pulled it out with the coat)   Luckily it was a private bus and the company have found my money bag, and will return it to us today.  Lucky!!!!  That didn't make for a happy time for a while as we waited to hear whether they had found it or not.

We head for the airport early tomorrow morning and this time tomorrow we will have actually found Thom and Laura (all going well).  The next phase of our holiday is about to start as the Italian phase comes to a close.

  1. Bill and I have been to Italy many times and love it. The area you are in is beautiful and it is a shame it has rained so much. I am happy you still enjoyed this beautiful part of Italy - hopefully you will feel the "draw" and go back again in the sunshine. Erica your phots are amazing! Beats my iphone shots I tend to do. Loving the blog. Glenda xx
